History

In August 2017, Southglenn Country Club placed a letter to residents in the SouthGlenn Living newsletter explaining its dire financial circumstances. On October 18, 2017, after community brainstorming sessions and an open forum, residents of the Southglenn community voted to have Southglenn Civic Association create an SRD Steering Committee to support and advocate for the formation of a Special Recreation District (SRD).

Purpose

The purpose of creating a Southglenn SRD is to convert Southglenn Country Club, Inc. into a Southglenn recreation and community facility that will be operated by and for the residents of Southglenn, protected against undesired development, in perpetuity as an open space/community/recreational facility. It will be self-governed by the people of the Southglenn community.

Goal

The SRD Steering Committee is tasked with educating homeowners about an SRD in order to generate supporters and donations to cover legal fees associated with the creation of an SRD. We have petitioned for a Special Meeting (as per Bylaws) to vote on conveying the asset/liabilities of the Southglenn Country Club (as per Bylaws) to a special district, should one be formed. We will not continue with efforts and expenses to potentially for a Special Recreation District that has no recreational facilities to offer. If we are successful in this Special Meeting vote, we will continue with the initiative - hiring legal counsel to take steps necessary for the formation of a district to appear on the county-administered ballot in November.
